Here are the five brave souls who backpacked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. From left to right, Tom (Katrina's uncle), Katrina, Mike, Barbara (Katrina's mom), and Stuart (Katrina's brother). With the desert heat in the summer time, we woke up at 4am in order to get to the trailhead by dawn. We hiked down the South Kaibab trail 6.5 miles to the bottom (4800 foot elevation change), and spent the night at Bright Angel Campground at the bottom. On the second day, we hiked about halfway up the Bright Angel Trail (5 miles) to Indian Garden Campground where we stayed the second night. On the final day, we hiked the rest of the way back up to the rim (4.5 miles). This picture was taken at about 6am at the South Kaibab trailhead on the first day.
